EYFS Activities to try at home- 

Below are several documents containing additional learning activities linked to the EYFS curriculum that you can complete at home.

Week Beginning 4th January 

Below you will find a list of additional learning activities that you can complete at home throughout the week. Please remember to get your grown-ups to show us the fabulous learning you have been doing by posting on Tapestry. We hope you have lots of fun and stay safe!

  1. Can you collect a range of shoes from around your house and order them by size?
  2. Can you make a winter picture or sensory bottle?
  3. Can you make a repeating pattern by printing with potatoes using paint?
  4. Can you sort all of the cutlery in your house into groups and count how many you have of each set? (e.g. how many knifes do you have? How many forks do you have?)
  5. Can you thread straws (or something similar) through the holes in a colander to practise your fine motor skills?
  6. Can you thread pasta tubes onto a shoelace and make a shape out of them?
  7. Can you record yourself singing you favourite nursery rhyme?
  8. Can you collect 6 sticks when out on a walk with your family? Can you use the sticks to make any 2D shapes?
  9. Can you help your grown up wash up after lunch or dinner?
  10. Talk with a grown up about how you are feeling about school closing.
  11. Can you draw a picture of what the egg looked like that we found in our classroom

Week Beginning 11th January

1.Cook different types of eggs to try. You could to scrambled, fried, poached, boil or eggy bread. 

2.Make a papier-mâché egg using a ballon, PVA glue, paper and water. Once its dry you can you paint or colour it to make it look like a real egg. 

3.Play a game using a dice. Can you identify the numbers without counting the spots? 

4.Watch the number blocks video for number six and draw each number block

5.Make your own playdough using the recipe off Tapestry . Can you make your name in playdough?

6.Go on You Tube to have a go at Cosmic Yoga.

7.Place some water in a bowl with a plastic toy. You can also add glitter and food colouring if you have some. Place the bowl in the freezer. Once it is frozen explore the ice. What does it feel like? Is it smooth or rough? Is it hot or cold? What do you think is in it? What is it made from? Is it hard or soft? How did it get glitter in it? How will it melt? What can they see inside it? Ask the children to free the toy hidden in side. Discuss how ice melts with an adult. Explore some of your own ideas of how to set the toy free.

Activity ideas…

  1. Can you paint or draw your favourite dinosaur

      2. EGG EXPERIEMENT- Get a few eggs. What will happen if we dropped one on the floor? (they will smash/ break). I want you to try and think of ways we can protect the eggs if we dropped them. Get some different materials e.g. bubble wrap, paper a towel. Can you use these materials to create an ‘egg protector’. When you have protected them with different materials drop the eggs from the same height. Which material worked best to protect the egg? Did any of the eggs break? What could we do next time to try and stop them from breaking? Why do we think it worked the best.

     3. Using chalk or water and a paint brush outside can you write the numbers, your name or draw a picture.

  1. In 30 seconds how many of these can you do? Star jumps, touch downs, hops and high knees.
  1. Play a board game using a dice.
  1. Can you count and record how many of these things you have in your house. Windows, doors, light switches, beds, toilets.
  1. Create a dinosaur skeleton using paper or ear buds.

Week Beginning 25th January

Activity ideas…

  1. Watch number blocks episode about number 7.
  2. Can you paint or draw a rainbow using 7 different colours.
  3. Using food at home and 7 plates or bowls, can you label the plates from 1 to 7 using paper. Then using real or fake food place the correct amount of food items in each bowl.
  4. Can you make your own lunch today?
  5. Go bowling. Place ten drinks bottles in a triangle. Roll a ball. Record how many you have knocked down. Set the bottle back up and roll the ball again. Record how many you knocked down this time. Have you knocked down more or less? You could have a competition with your parents or siblings.
  6. Practise your throwing and catching with an adult.
  7. Learn a new song and practise your dance moves.
  8. Order the dinosaurs by length.

  4. Create an animal rescue center using soft toys.
  5. Create a dinosaur mini land.
  6. Create your own indoor/outdoor circuit.
