Recently, 1GM visited The Hepworth art gallery in Wakefield to see Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures. The children have been ;earning about the local, significant artist this term. They looked at a variety of sculptures and focused on The Family of Man. In school the children made a clay sculpture using 3d shapes and hollows similar to Barbara Hepworth’s sculptures. The visit to The Hepworth allowed 1GM to see real sculpture up close and to appreciate the materials used to make them and there varying sizes. The children moved around the different galleries sketching responses to what they saw in their sketchbooks. The day was completed by visiting sculptures outside in the beautiful gardens.
