Design and Technology – year 1

This term the children in year 1 have been thinking and learning about healthy eating. They have looked at the different types of foods and where they come from. Year 1 have been learning about whether the food on their plate is a plant or an animal and how they are grown or reared. In particular, they looked at how lots of plants produce fruit and vegetables and how they are grown in the UK and other countries. Next, they tried a variety of fruits and they discussed whether they are grown on a tree, in the ground or on a bush. The children practised the skills of peeling, chopping and slicing safely before designing and making their own fruit skewer to enjoy!
