Year 1 recently visited The Hepworth art gallery in Wakefield to see sculpture made by local artist Dame Barbara Hepworth. The children looked at small and large sculptures inside the art gallery and outside in the Hepworth garden. They saw sculptures made from wood, stone, metal, plaster and wire. Year 1 took their sketchbooks with them so they could record their thoughts, ideas and responses to the sculptures. They noticed that some of the sculptures had hollows in them and this allowed them to look through and beyond the sculpture. Both classes had a brilliant day and learnt lots of information about Dame Barbara Hepworth. They did some fantastic sketching and recording in their sketchbooks. Well done year 1!
