Oracy at Clapgate

At Clapgate Primary School, we believe oracy is a vital skill in order to support our pupils to develop in all areas of the curriculum. Oracy describes both the act of learning to talk and learning through talk. We know that students who can communicate clearly feel more able to participate in class discussions and communicate their understanding in assessments. Developing oracy also improves children’s writing, confidence, well-being, social skills, problem-solving skills, cultural and linguistic development, as well as helping to prepare them for future careers. With such a large range of benefits, it’s no surprise that our oracy curriculum underpins everything we do.

Below, you can see our Oracy Curriculum. This is based on the Voice 21 Oracy Framework. We incorporate other materials freely available from Voice 21 into our teaching, such as a range of ways to group pupils. We have talk rules which are embedded across school and referred to regularly.
