Producing sentences correctly is an area that we are supporting all children with. Colourful Semantics is an approach created by Alison Bryan that we have implemented throughout school. It is aimed at children to develop their grammar but it is rooted in the meaning of words (semantics). In Colourful Semantics, parts of a sentence are colour coded according to the function they have in the sentence.
Parents and carers can their child by encouraging them to speak in full sentences and modelling in speaking in full sentences for them.
Take a look at the examples and some of our interactive displays in school!

To celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 6th October, Andy Craven-Griffiths visited Clapgate and led workshops for every child in Y1 – Y6. As well as inspiring the children to work in teams and create some magnificent poems, Andy also led a celebration assembly where he shared an original poem of his own which included many of our pupils’ names in it! It was wonderful to see all the children’s faces light up as they recognised their friends’ names appearing in his spoken word poem.
It was clear to see that Andy had been as inspired by our imaginative pupils as they were by him.
