2JC ICT
2JC have enjoyed building on their ICT skills this half term by learning about pictograms. The children have learnt about how to use tally charts and pictograms to represent information and have even collected their own information! In a lesson, the children looked at what minibeasts we have around our school grounds. We went outside to research this and the children practiced using a tally chart to show the total amount of each minibeast. They then represented this in their own pictogram which they designed on their computers.
The children learnt how to count totals in a tally chart and represent this in a pictogram. The class were brilliant at supporting one another and working well in their partners to create their pictograms. 2JC built up to using these skills and at the end of the half term were able to choose their own theme to create their own pictograms!
By creating these pictograms, the children were able to use what they had learnt in maths about tally charts and pictograms to have more independence in creating their own pictograms and develop these skills further.
"I liked going outside to count minibeasts even though it was raining!"- Year 2 pupil
"I liked making my own pictogram about everyone's favourite colours"- Year 2 pupil
"I helped my partner log on the computer and now they know how to do it on their own!"- Year 2 pupil
"Going on the computers is really fun"- Year 2 pupil
It has been wonderful to see how much the children have progressed in using ICT skills in these lessons. The children have shown that they can work extremely well collaboratively and help each other when they find it hard. Many of the children have also shown resilience but have kept trying when they have found it hard! They have created some great, accurate pictograms which show the class's favourite animals, colours and methods of transport.
