Year 3 – Art

This half term, the children have learnt about the Pop Art movement and Roy Lichtenstein. They have researched different types of prints and experimented with different resources to create their own prints. They created repeating patterns with different pieces of fruit and discussed which foods made the best patterns. The children enjoyed making their own relief print using cardboard and paint. Once the children had practised a range of different printing techniques they were introduced to Pop Art and created their own. They used bubble wrap to print the coloured background and thought carefully about the amount of paint they needed so that there was enough detail in their printing. Pop Art words were created using bubble writing and bright colours and then the children assembled their final piece.

What the Teacher says

Year 2 really enjoyed using different printing techniques. They experimented with different amounts of paint and looked at the detail they achieved. I was really impressed with they way they created their relief print blocks and they carefully applied paint to the cardboard to achieve the desired effect. They looked at a range of Pop Art blocks and discussed which words they liked and why, I really enjoyed listening to their discussions. They used grit when creating their own words as it was tricky for some to get their lettering the same size. I was really impressed with their final pieces of work. - Mrs Widdows.
