Year 4 – Song of the River

Year 4 – Song of the River

This half term the children have been learning all about the book ‘Song of the River’ by Gill Lewis. We really enjoyed exploring this text and learning all about the vital work that beavers do! We produced lots of great work surrounding this book, including our stunning fact files. When we were visited by a very angry farmer who said that she didn’t want any beavers on her land (who also looked suspiciously like Miss Taylor!), we knew we had to write the best persuasive speech we could in order to convince her to let us reintroduce beavers!

We have had some great experiences throughout this half term, including when we had to piece our room back together after it had been hit by a terrible flood! We also met with a wonderful lady named Eva from the Beaver Trust, who told us some really interesting information about beavers and tested our knowledge with a quiz.

This book has been very emotive and interesting and we have enjoyed some fantastic discussions surrounding it. It has been great to produce work surrounding such an interesting subject. 4RM and 4CJ will definitely be forever known as the beaver experts!

What the Teacher says

It has been so wonderful to see the children really embrace this text and get so much out of it! They were really passionate when delivering their speeches about why we need beavers and have found the subject so enjoyable. It was also such a treat meeting Eva from the Beaver Trust and seeing how excited the children were about this. We are so proud of all of year 4 this half term!
