Nursery- On the Farm
This half term we have been learning all about farms and farm animals. It has been wonderful to see the children to explore farm life through hands-on experiences and engaging activities across all areas of learning.
One of the highlights of this topic was our fantastic trip to Swithens Farm. The children had a brilliant time going on a tractor ride, having a guided tour of the farm, feeding the animals, and finishing the day with lots of fun in the park. The experience really helped bring our learning to life!
Back in the classroom, we’ve been exploring both fiction and non-fiction books about farm life. One of our favourite stories has been ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ by Julia Donaldson. The children loved the story and used it as a stimulus to create their own maps, practicing their fabulous drawing skills.
We’ve also been learning the song ‘Old MacDonald Had a Farm’ and recorded our own green screen video performance—the children had so much fun singing and seeing themselves on screen!
Additionally, we have been learning about what grows on a farm and using our observational drawing skills to draw pictures of the different vegetables that grow. We have been carefully looking at their shapes, colours, and textures. We’ve also enjoyed using small world resources to create our very own farmyard scenes, helping to develop storytelling, language, and imaginative play.
